Tickets can be purchased in advance online or through our reservations department by contacting +353 1 8169538. Alternatively, tickets can be purchased on your arrival at the Visitor Centre where walk in visitors are allocated the next available tour time. Our last tour is 4.30pm Monday through to Sunday. ( 3.30pm Nov- Mar)
What’s to do at Malahide Castle & Gardens
Take a GUIDED TOUR of one of Irelands oldest castles dating back to the 12th Century. Guided tours take place every day from 9.30am ( Monday- Sunday). We only close for 2 days in the whole year- 25th & 26th December! Last guided tour is 4.30pm ( or 3.30pm from Nov- Mar)
Spend time in the Castle Exhibition area and learn the fascinating & colourful history behind the Talbot Family who owned Malahide Castle for nearly 800 years! Don’t get spooked in Puck’s corner!
Explore Malahide Walled Botanical Garden & Exhibition – over 4 acres of the beautiful botanical walled garden located just through the visitor centre. Lord Milo Talbot helped shape and create the walled botanical garden as we see it today! We are lucky to have 1 of only 4 botanical gardens in Ireland! With 7 glasshouses, 5000 species of plants, a grass parterre and lots of wild life roaming happily its easy to get lost in this tranquil space!
Visit the West Lawn and take your picture beside some of the oldest trees on the Malahide Castle demesne- including the contorted branches of the old oak tree and the ornamental ‘Cedar of Lebanon’ tree believed to be nearly 400 years old! With 22 acres to explore it might be worth bringing your picnic and a flask!
The state of the art playground at Malahide Castle is located just 2 minutes from the Visitor Centre and has plenty of apparatus for the very little ones and the not so little ones to enjoy!
Malahide Village – only a short 10 minute stroll from the castle grounds, Malahide Village is home to some of Dublin’s best bars & restaurants, boutiques and coffee shops, Malahide is a buzzing cosmopolitan & upmarket costal village and well worth a visit. Check out the beautiful Marina & take a brisk freshening walk along the coast past The Grand Hotel!
Toots: The Malahide Road Train- fancy a whistle-stop tour of Malahide Village then Toots is your man! The Train stops at a few different locations – Malahide Train Station (DART), The library in the village and the beach carpark and drops off at Malahide Castle. With Live commentary and even a sing song from time to time- this is a fun activity for the whole family to enjoy!

Avoca cafe & shop
From beautiful throws and woollens from their famous woollen mills in Avoca to quirky gifts and home wares, on trend women’s, men’s and children’s fashions and a 170 seated cafe overlooking the walled gardens Avoca is a must see on your visit to Malahide Castle! If you prefer the outdoors simply take out a coffee or hot chocolate from the wide range of take out options from the Foodhall and enjoy them in the beautiful gardens. Malahide Outdoor Store
If you love the outdoors you’ll love to visit the ‘Malahide Outdoor Store’ located in the courtyard at Malahide Castle. Stocking a wide range of outdoor clothing, footwear and equipment for walking, hiking running for young and old! Visit them on their FACEBOOK page for more info.
Malahide Castle & Gardens Museum Shop
Is located beside the Admission desk in the visitor centre. The Malahide Castle gift shop has a wide range of special gifts for you to take home as a souvenir of your visit to Malahide Castle. From books & cards to t-shirts, chocolates & candles there is something to suit all budgets. We even sell plants from our gardens- pick one up from our cart in the courtyard!
Malahide Castle is so easy to get to! Only 10 minutes from Dublin Airport and 13KM from Dublin city centre, there are plenty of ways to get to us!

Dublin Bus- North Coastal Tour
Want to do your own thing and take public transport, here are some options…
Bus Routes- Dublin buses operate to and from Malahide- bus route number 42 or bus route 32 from Dublin City Centre- journey time approx. 40 minutes
Trains (DART): Irish Rail operates a train and D.A.R.T. service to and from Malahide: The journey time is approximately 30 minutes. For schedules visit: http://www.irishrail.ie/

prepare for the weather- rain coats and/or sun cream be ready for whatever the Irish weather can throw at you ( and can change all in one day!)

Leave plenty of time– we recommend at least 2 hours to see the castle & gardens, however you can enjoy a FULL day out if you include lunch in AVOCA or Malahide Village, visit in the afternoon and have an evening meal in Malahide Village followed by a visit to one of the award winning pubs! You might forget where home is!!
