About the Role

We’re hiring a Castle Host to run the day-to-day reception desk at Malahide Castle & Gardens and help deliver exceptional tours and a memorable visitor experience. This is a customer-facingteam-based role with rostered hours, including weekends and public holidays (seasonal hours apply).

Key Responsibilities

  • Tour Operations: Coordinate and time tours; organise groups; maintain presentation standards in the Castle at all times.

  • Guided Tours: Deliver engaging, informative tours using the provided script – adapt for groups (e.g., schools) while staying on-message.

  • Visitor Safety & Site Security: Safeguard visitors and the site; communicate with the team and management while on duty; lead calm, prompt evacuations and follow fire and safety procedures.

  • Team Coordination: Liaise with admissions staff, guides and colleagues to keep tours running smoothly; support wider operational activities as needed.

  • Front-of-House Excellence: Ensure the castle entrance/reception is never left unattended and is presented to the highest standard.

  • Training & Induction: Assist with training of guides and seasonal staff; induct interns; coordinate staff familiarisation across teams and the site.

  • Housekeeping & Conservation Liaison: Work with maintenance, cleaning, curation and conservation teams on maintenance, housekeeping and preventative conservation needs.

  • Customer Service: Provide an efficient, courteous service – every visitor, every time.

  • Confident communicator who can engage groups and diverse audiences

  • Ability to deliver informative guided tours

  • Proficient computer skills (Excel, Word, email)

  • Willingness to learn and take on new skills

  • Passion for outstanding visitor experience

Other Requirements

  • Experience working as a tour guide

  • Flexibility for weekend work, public holidays and seasonal events

  • A keen interest in Irish history and the arts (e.g., archaeology, architecture, art history)

Hours & Roster

  • Rostered hours with changing seasonal schedules

  • Weekends and public holidays required
