Customer Journey

On arrival please check in at our Castle Desk with your ticket on your mobile device or in print. You will be allocated to either visit Santa’s grotto first or begin with the castle tour. Once you have registered you will make your way to the castle interpretative area, your children can partake in some colouring and activities while you enjoy some refreshments. The first group allocated to do the castle tour will be brought upstairs, while the second group will wait in the holding area until their name is called to visit the grotto. Once you have visited Santa you will wait in the interpretive area until the second tour begins.

What is included in the price

Mrs Claus / Santa Visit / Gift / Castle Tour / mulled wine & mince pies complimentary for adults


There is free parking however spaces at peak times (i.e. Weekends) are limited. Please allow extra time for parking. Where at all possible public transport is advised.

Visit time

One hour – the castle tour will last half an hour.

Do I have to arrive exactly at the set appointment time?

Yes, please arrive at the castle at your allocated time slot. We would recommend visitors to arrive 15 minutes before their time slot. If you arrive late we cannot guarantee we can cater for your family at this time.

If my appointed time is, for example, 5.00p.m do I get to visit Santa at exactly 5.00p.m?

No – you have been given an hourly slot. You will see Santa sometime between 5.00p.m and 6.00p.m.

Food and Retail

Our gift shop will be open in the visitor centre from 9.30am – 5.30pm and Avoca café will be open from 9.30am – 5pm

What are the photography prices?

€10 for one photo and €20 for three photos. Please note photos can be purchased with cash only as we do not have credit card facilities within the castle. There is an ATM in Avoca which closes at 5.30pm

Can I bring a wheelchair ?

Please note Santas Grotto is not wheelchair accessible. Access to the Grotto is via three steps, which we can assist with wheelchair if needed. The castle tour is wheelchair accessible, limited to one wheelchair per time slot.

Can I bring a buggy?

Please note buggys cannot be brought into Santas grotto or on the castle tour. All buggys are left in a supervised area within the castle entrance and can be collected on departure.

Can I bring extra people on the day?

No, all children and adults must be pre-booked online

Are bookings refundable?

Bookings are non-refundable so please ensure you pick the correct date and time before completed your booking.

What is the max child age?

There is no age restriction

Is the event all indoors?

Yes, the event is based in the castle itself

Does Santa have a real beard?


Can people visit Malahide Castle without a Santa visit?

Malahide Castle will continue to operate their regular 45 minute guided tours also along with the Fairy Trail and Gardens
